Area Law Enforcement
Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Police report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report preliminary tests show the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to its source; investigators are presently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to solve the case" and have asked to the public for tips.
A senior representative said the attack rendered him speechless and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
